If you’re like everyone else, finding out whether someone online likes you is probably a hit-or-miss affair. The same holds true for online dating, except with the added challenge that you can’t see the person so you can’t have visual clues on how they might feel about you.
Here are some general questions that might help you figure out whether or not that person you’re chatting with likes you.
How long do your conversations last?
Not counting the times when you’ve had to ditch because of emergencies, how long do your average conversations last? Does it sound like the other person always has to go just as you’re warming up? Is it usually just hello and goodbye? Either the other person is just really that busy or he/she just doesn’t have time for you. A really interesting conversation is usually one where both parties lose track of time.
How often do they message you?
Do you get messages once a day or once every other day? That’s usually a sign that the person likes you. If they message you pretty often, it means they think of you often enough. It can be as simple as a greeting or a question about your day. However, this is not an excuse to message the person you like every minute. That might make the other person think you have nothing better to do.
Do they remember some of the little things you say?
This varies depending on the person. But people who like you will sometimes remember little details about your previous conversations. (Note: This doesn’t mean that a forgetful person doesn’t like you. It just means they’re forgetful. Or busy.) When you chat, try to see if they bring up some inconsequential things you mentioned in a previous conversation.
Read between the lines.
What kind of messages do they send you? Are they flirty? Could they be trying to see if you feel the same way? It’s very difficult to really capture emotions with short chat messages, but sometimes you just have to watch out for it.
Do you always have to message them first?
If you don’t message him/her first, would you receive a message from that person at all? Of course, some people feel too shy to actually initiate contact, so you will have to account for that. But if this person messages you as soon as you go online, there’s a huge possibility that they like you.
If you’ve been contacting each other for a while and still don’t know whether they like you or not, you can always try a more direct approach. You can either ask if they like you or say outright that you like them and see how they react. You will have to understand of course that this is probably going to change things between you two. If they say that they don’t really like you, you can decide whether you want to choose to remain friends or not. Asking this question too early would be a bad idea though. The other person might feel you’re too pushy and start feeling uncomfortable with you.
