If you’re like a lot of other men, you probably think that guys who post pictures of their abs get the hundreds of messages from women. This is simply not true. Yes, there are women out there who are drawn to such pictures but the same cannot be said of all women. If you’re feeling clueless about what photo to post on your profile, read on.
Post only pictures of yourself.
This sounds like simple common-sense, but it has to be said. Many people feel insecure about how they look and resort to posting pictures they’ve swiped from the Internet. They then reveal their real pictures once they’ve met and gotten close to women they like. Don’t let this happen to you. Lying is never the best way to start a relationship. The other person may feel hurt or betrayed by the fact that you lied to them when they eventually find out.
Recent pictures only.
A recent photo means something that was taken within the year or even within the last three months. That picture of yourself mountain climbing taken 5 years ago might look flattering but you probably look a bit different today. Let the other person know what to expect and be honest about how you look. If you’re no longer stick-thin, don’t post an old picture that shows you are.
Don’t hide yourself.
Hiding parts of your face might make the other person suspicious. Don’t hide behind your hair, your dark glasses, or a cap. Your very artistic photo might look good on Facebook or Myspace but it just won’t do on your online dating profile. People want to know how you look, not how artistic your photos can get.
Avoid pictures of body parts.
Again, stop posting pictures of your abs. No matter how ripped they are, that isn’t really what people need to see. And don’t even try getting away with posting pictures of your privates. Not only could that get you banned on certain online dating sites, it’s also not the best way of getting a woman to talk to you. You want a woman to look at your picture and imagine going out on a date with you.
No pets, babies, and cars.
Your profile is about yourself. Not about your dog or your cat. It’s not about your car and most certainly not about your baby. People are not there to look at how cute your golden retriever is. They’re not going to date your retriever after all. Stick to pictures of yourself. They might not be as cute but at least they’re accurate.
Show your adventurous side.
Women like men who enjoy doing a lot of things. Post a few pictures showing you doing interesting things like hiking, horse riding, or even painting! At the very least, these will make great conversation starters.
It’s okay to look casual if that’s how you normally dress but try to be presentable in the picture. You might be a slob in real life but this is not the place to advertise that. Get cleaned up and make an effort to look your best in your photo.
